The Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was introduced in Lok Sabha on July 26, 2023. The Bill amends the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Castes Order, 1956. The Order lists the castes deemed to be Scheduled Castes in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Scheduled Castes in Jammu and Kashmir: The Bill adds Valmiki community as a synonym of Chura, Balmiki, Bhangi, and Mehtar communities. The synonym will apply only in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
