The Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill, 2018 was introduced in Lok Sabha today. It seeks to replace the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Ordinance, 2018. The Bill provides for the supersession of the Medical Council of India (MCI) for a period of one year. The MCI is responsible for regulating medical education and practice. Under the Bill, a Board of Governors will be constituted to exercise the powers of the Council in the interim period of one year.
The Central University (Amendment) Bill, 2018 was also introduced in the Lower House today. The Bill establishes a new Central University and Central Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh.
The House adjourned soon after the introduction of these two bills.
