Plan vs. Performance- Budget Session 2010: Feb 22 to May 07

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die on May 7. This note lists the legislative business planned by Parliament and compares it with the actual performance during the Budget Session. During the Session, 15 Bills were passed and 37 were introduced (including Appropriation Bills).

Both houses sat late on several days to discuss the Railway and General Budgets. Rajya Sabha also discussed the working of various ministries. Issues related to inflation, naxalism and census were also discussed besides other legislation. Lok Sabha worked for 66% of the scheduled hours and Rajya Sabha for 74%. Several hours were lost due to interruptions on the issues of IPL, phone tapping, 2G spectrum allocation, naxalism and inflation.
