Parliament Session Wrap: Monsoon 2011

13 legislative Bills were introduced and 10 Bills were passed. Several hours were lost due to interruptions on the issues of corruption, Lokpal and appointment of Gujarat Lokayukta. Lok Sabha worked for 67% of the scheduled hours and Rajya Sabha for 62%.

*The Customs (Amendment and Validation) Bill, 2011	Clarifies, with retrospective effect, that all officers of Customs have the power of assessment.
The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirteenth Amendment) Bill, 2010	Alters the name of the language “Oriya” as “Odiya” in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
The Orissa (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2010	Alters the name of the State of Orissa as “Odisha”.
The State Bank of India (Subsidiary Banks) Amendment Bill, 2009	Amends the Act to reflect the transfer of shares of SBI from RBI to central government.
The National Council for Teacher Education (Amendment) Bill, 2010	Clarifies that NCTE can prescribe qualification for teachers in all schools from pre-primary to senior secondary levels.
The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Bill, 2010	Removes discriminatory provisions against children affected by some diseases like leprosy, TB, Hepatitis, mental illness, etc.
*The Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill, 2011	Increases the period of reconstitution of the Indian Medical Council from one year to two years.
The Transplantation of Human Organs (Amendment) Bill, 2009	Expands list of eligible relatives for organ donation and enables authorisation of donation by all ICU patients.
The Jawaharlal Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry (Amendment) Bill, 2010	Extends the time given to employees to opt as JIPMER staff or remain in the employment of central government.
The Coinage Bill, 2009	Consolidates four Acts to regulate the minting, issue and use of coins as legan tender.
*The Appropriation (No. 3) Bill, 2011	Authorises expenditure from the Consolidated Fund of India.
