The government plans to introduce a Companies Bill this monsoon session of Parliament to ensure that domestic companies are made International Financial Reporting Standards-compliant before 2011.

PF Act likely to cover firms with 10 employees

Every person employed in establishments that have 10 or more workers but less than 20 may come under the purview of the Provident Fund Act if the decision to amend the Act is approved.

Govt gives nod to Land Ports Authority

The Government approved the introduction of a Bill in Parliament seeking to establish a Land Ports Authority of India that will create and manage modern entry and exit points on the country’s land borders.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the monsoon session of Parliament will commence from Aug 11.  He added that the government was ready to prove its majority on the floor of the House.

Dowry Act may soon cover unnatural death at any stage of marriage

Dowry Prohibition Act is likely to be amended to cover unnatural death of a woman at any stage of her marriage.  Also, it may limit arrests of the immediate family members of the groom till they are proved guilty.

Centre working on laws to prevent immigration scams

An ordinance has been finalised for amending the 1983 Emigration Act to include provisions to prohibit illegal emigration and human smuggling and making punishments more stringent.
