With an objective
to verify and highlight responsible roles taken up the people’s
representatives like MPs and MLAs a one-day workshop on tracking the
works of MPs and MLAs was organised jointly by the All Manipur Working
Journalists Union, AMWJU and PRS Legislative Research, New Delhi today
at Manipur Press Club in Imphal.
While explaining the objective of
the workshop, Chakshu Rai, of the PRS Legislative Reasearch disclosed
that such workshops by journalists became important as journalists in
the democartic society play the role of poeple’s voice and deliver
messages to the people living in every nook and corner of the region.
He
said PRS Legislative Research is an independent project initiative
that seeks to strengthen the legislative process by making it better
informed, more transparent and participatory and its work is
collaborative and seeks to compliment existing expertise in government,
researchers, institutions, business and citizen sector.
He said PRS
produces legislative brief on responding in Parliament and these briefs
are sent to all members of the houses of Parliament.
He also said
such workshops have been organised by the PRS for civil societies and
organisations and journalists in order to better equip them with tools
to engage in the legislative process.
Interaction and suggestions made by the editors of various local dailies marked the workshop.
