PRS Legislative Research, in collaboration with the Indian Women's Press Corps (IWPC), organised a workshop for journalists in the Capital on tracking the work of MPs. Given the importance of the role of the national press in monitoring the work of the Parliament, this workshop aimed at providing a comprehensive overview of the different aspects of an MP's work in Parliament, and how they can be tracked.
Neerja Chowdhury, eminent politcal journalist and President, IWPC, in her opening remarks focused on the changes in Parliamentary reporting over the last two decades, and The workshop dwelt on various procedural elements, directing and familiarising journalists to resources where these can be tracked. These included quantitative criteria like MP attendance, debates participated in, questions raised, as well as qualitative aspects such as debate speeches, budget debates, issues pertaining key Bills pending in Parliament, among other concerns.
