PRS conducted a workshop with journalists in Gaya and Muzaffarpur on September 24th and 25th respectively, on the process of Tracking the work of MPs and MLAs. It sought to familiarise reporters on sources of information for following the work of elected representatives.
The workshop in Gaya was attended by journalists from various surrounding districts including Navada, Sasaram, Aurangabad and Jahanabad, and the Muzaffarpur workshop was attended by journalists coming from Samastipur, Vaishali, Khagadia, Saharsa and Begusarai.
The representatives of the local media urged that such workshops should be held at regular intervals. This would enable journalists to review their work, but more importantly would help steer the political conversations in the region to focus on the work and fund allocation that the MP/MLA puts into place in the region. At future workshops they also suggested that members of of the local government be invited to expand the discussion.
