M R MadhavanMadhavan co-founded PRS in 2005, and is currently its President.Prior to starting PRS, Madhavan was based in Singapore covering currency and interest rate markets as Principal and Senior Strategist for the Asia region for Bank of America. He started his career with ICICI Securities in Mumbai in the equity research group and later headed interest rates research. He is a Fellow (doctorate) from IIM Calcutta, MBA from IIM Calcutta and holds a B. Tech degree from IIT Madras. In 2010, Madhavan was selected as a Chevening Gurukul Scholar at the London School of Economics. madhavan@prsindia.org Alok RawatAlok leads Thematic Research in Economic Sectors.Prior to joining PRS, Alok worked as an equity analyst covering metals & mining, automotive and retail sectors at BNP Paribas, CLSA and JPMorgan. He holds a Bachelors degree in Information Technology from University of Delhi and an MBA from XLRI, Jamshedpur. alok@prsindia.org Anil NairAnil leads the States Initiative at PRS since 2010. He drives MLA engagement through research support and leadership workshops for MLAs. Anil also created the Legislators Knowledge Network, a forum for MLAs across India to interact and exchange policy ideas.Anil has a mix of business and non profit experience with stints in vocational education, consumer goods, financial services and software development. He was earlier part of an AIDS awareness programme at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He holds a degree in civil engineering from VJTI, Mumbai and an MBA from IIM Calcutta. anil@prsindia.org Chakshu RoyChakshu currently heads the outreach team and leads the legislator and citizen engagement initiatives. He joined PRS in 2006 and has been involved in setting up the state laws project, training civil society and journalist groups about tracking Parliament.Before joining PRS, Chakshu worked as a lawyer who specialised in real estate law and commercial contracts. He has earlier worked in corporate law with the Chamber of Law, New Delhi. He was selected as an INK Fellow in 2010. He holds Bachelors degrees in Commerce and Law from Delhi University. chakshu@prsindia.org Dinakar RAs a part of the PRS team, Dinakar has been the MP Outreach Coordinator since 2012. He interacts with MPs on matters related to legislation and policy, and supports the team’s efforts to create research relevant to the MPs' requirements.Dinakar was a World Bank Scholar at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, for their Master's program in International Public Policy Management, and has interned with ADBI, Tokyo. Prior to this, he has worked in the area of Technology and Development with Biotech Consortium India Ltd., British Council Division and Japan International Cooperation Agency. Dinakar holds a BSc from Kerala University and a PGDRM from IRMA, Gujarat. dinakar@prsindia.org Hemlata BishtHema is Administrative Assistant to the PRS team since 2009. She is responsible for content updation on the Laws of India and PRS websites, state laws data compilation and assisting the PRS team in administrative functions.She has worked with BSA Logistics Company in the customer care division and Solution-Digitas as a Quality Analyst. Hema holds Bachelors degrees in Arts from Delhi University and a Diploma in Office Management from the YMCA, New Delhi. hemlata@prsindia.org Jhalak KakkarJhalak has been an analyst with PRS since 2012 and her areas of work are environment, mining, tribal affairs and strategic affairs. Some of the research she has worked on include a Legislative Brief on the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Bill and an analysis of the government’s rule making powers.Prior to joining PRS, her internships include the Government Affairs and Policy Team at Amarchand Mangaldas and the corporate teams of Allen & Overy LLP and Trilegal. At NUJS, she was the Editor of the Journal of Indian Law and Society. She presented a paper at the 13th International Symposium on Victimology in Japan, which was subsequently published. He has worked as an office assistant with Federal Bank of India and Marpol Private Ltd.kamal@prsindia.org Kusum MalikKusum has been working with PRS since 2007. She is a research associate who focuses on tracking the work done by legislators and legislatures. She is in charge of content management of PRS websites. In addition, she oversees the translation of PRS research products.She has earlier worked with the Centre for Policy Research supporting the work of different research teams. Kusum holds Bachelors degrees in Commerce from Delhi University and Diploma in Financial Management and Accountability from FMSF- Tata Institute of Social Sciences. kusum@prsindia.org Mandira KalaMandira is currently Head of Research at PRS. She joined PRS in 2009 and led its engagement with MPs, to provide them legislative and policy support. Her core role involved engaging with MPs regularly to understand their research needs, briefing them on upcoming issues and designing initiatives that add value to the work of MPs. Mandira also anchored the LAMP Fellowship during its initial years.Previously, she has worked in the research team of Azim Premji Foundation, Bangalore and Centre for Social Policy, Boston, USA. She was awarded the UNDP Asia- Pacific Human Development Academic Fellowship in 2008. Mandira was selected as an Emerging Leaders Fellow 2011-12 by the Australia India Institute at the University of Melbourne. She has a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. mandira@prsindia.org Priya Thachadi SomanPriya is the Coordinator of the LAMP Fellowship, a flagship initiative of PRS. Managing over 40 Fellows in the program, Priya is responsible for the recruitment, training and managing the Fellows.She joined PRS in 2011, before that she worked in London with organisations such as Campaign Against Arms Trade and the DFID programme Platform 2. She has also worked as a journalist in Bangalore. Priya holds an MA in International Relations from the University of Warwick, UK and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Mt. Carmel College. She also has a postgraduate degree in Human Rights Law from NLSIU, Bangalore. priya@prsindia.org Sakshi BalaniSince joining PRS as an analyst in 2011, Sakshi has been developing expertise in the sectors of rural development, agriculture and water resources. Some of her salient research products include a brief on the National Food Security Bill, an analysis of the Public Distribution System and an overview of the parliamentary oversight of regulators in India.Sakshi worked on U.S. domestic policy as a research assistant to the North American Representative to the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York. Prior to that, she interned at the Human Rights Watch in New York City. She holds a Bachelors degree. in Sociology from Colby College, U.S. sakshi@prsindia.org S V PrasadPrasad joined PRS in 2013 as Head of Accounts and Administration.He has over 25 years of work experience in Finance, Accounts, Audit, Administration and Sales & Marketing. Prasad holds Bachelors degrees in Commerce and Law from Delhi University. prasad@prsindia.org Vishnu PadmanabhanVishnu is an Analyst with the research team and focuses on the finance, energy and power sectors. Since joining PRS in 2012, his work has included a brief on the Micro Finance Institutions Bill, 2012, power sector and regular statistical analysis of Parliament performance.Before PRS, Vishnu worked as an Economics Analyst at Daiwa Capital Markets in Singapore. He has also worked at Timetric, an economics research firm, and OPTA, a sports statistics firm. He holds a Masters in International Political Economy from LSE where his dissertation focused on the political economy of India's reforms in 1991.
